Thanks! New Jersey Conservation Foundation
Since 1960, the New Jersey Conservation Foundation has protected over 100,000 acres of land from certain doom. Their mission is to protect wildlife and natural resources for all. They had an assembly called to declare October a litter free month; even though you are never supposed to litter. They also try to encourage people to recycle and people are starting to take action.
One of the reasons it is so important to recycle is to stop the landfills from overflowing and not use all of our natural resources. For example, butterflies need native plants to drink nectar out of. We need to protect plants such as milkweed, red and white clover, hawthorn, spicebush, lilac, phlox, yarrows, and goldenrod, which are going to become extinct if we continue to pollute the Earth.
The New Jersey Conservation Foundation believes that too many people are getting overweight from eating unhealthy foods. We need to replace the sugary foods with fruits and healthy snacks, which are dependent on plants growing and keeping the Earth healthy.
Another issue the NJCF has brought to our attention is people’s dependency on cars. People are making excuses for not exercising, but all you have to do to exercise is go in your yard or a park and do an activity. Maybe you could help pick up the litter. The people at the foundation help keep us healthy and take care of nature for us by doing research to stop pollution, and preserving our natural resources. So join me in sending a big thanks to the NJCF and help do your part.

Wizard of Menlo Park
Did you know Thomas Edison was one of the greatest inventors ever? Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847. As a child, Edison loved to learn new information and was very curious, but he drove his teachers crazy asking so many questions. His mother had to take him out of school and continued to educate him at home. He had many tutors and eventually created his own business firm.
He opened his first complete testing and development laboratory in Newark, New Jersey and later moved his laboratory to Menlo Park, NJ. It was there that he invented the phonograph in 1877. The phonograph was so popular, people started to call Edison the “Wizard of Menlo Park.” His first invention was the quadruplex telegraph. Later, during 1877 Edison invented the carbon microphone that was used until the 1980’s!
On October 22, 1879 Thomas Edison invented another great idea. It was an electric light bulb that lasted 13.5 hours so people no longer had to use candles to light their homes. It was in 1883 Edison developed the first electric light system
Edison’s death marked the end of an important time of industrial progress. When he was laid to rest, people throughout the world dimmed their lights and briefly turned off their electric power in his honor.
