New Jersey Art History
Calling all artists! Do you know where the first American sculpture was made? Well it was made in NJ. The artist’s name was Patience Wright and she was born in 1725 in Bordentown, NJ. Some of the beautiful work she made was put out in an exhibit. A few years after that, Patience Wright moved to England and made sculptures of famous people, including the king and queen of England. When she was in her London home she helped American prisoners by hiding them. She would also help America by putting messages in her wax sculptures and sending them over. Even when she was a child she made sculptures but I don’t think they would be as good as the ones she would make when she was around 30 years old. Patience often amused her five children and herself by making cool molds of their faces. She used putty, bread dough, and wax for the molds. I think if any artists would like to know about, or to see how to make, any sculptures learning about Patience Wright will give you a whole bunch of information. Lets celebrate our state’s art history.

Snakes Everywhere
There is a lot of wildlife in NJ. People know a lot about the wildlife here in NJ, but people do not know much about the snakes in New Jersey. Some snakes include the Copperhead snake, Northern Water snake, and the Queen snake. The Copperhead snake is less that 4 feet long and the main body is tan. It has red-brown bold bands on its back that are shaped like hourglasses. The Northern Water snake is about 3 feet long and is black or dark brown. Its belly has a mix of red, yellow, tan, or brown. Finally, the Queen snake is the smallest at only 2.3 feet long. Snakes live in all different parts of NJ and the queen snake is found in the moist, swampy regions of Southern NJ. New Jersey has both poisonous and nonpoisonous snakes. Some poisonous snakes include the Copperhead and the Timber rattlesnake. Some nonpoisonous snakes are the Milk snake and the Eastern Garter snake. Both types can be endangered. A poisonous snake that is endangered is the Timber rattlesnake while a nonpoisonous one is the Queen snake. I love snakes and I hope you do too.

The Liberty Science Center
Have you ever heard about the Liberty Science Center? It is a place where you can live the life of a construction worker by walking on a ride called “Skyscraper.” You can see the pieces of the Twin Towers. Another cool place is “Infection Connection.” You could see many interesting things here. There are games that teach you how you get sick, there’s a nose that sneezes at you every five minutes, and there’s a train that you go in that teaches you what germs make you sick.
Another place you can go to is the exhibit called “Eat and Be Eaten.” Here you can see venomous animals like snakes and scorpions. There are also other animals like roaches, reptiles, and turtles.
The Liberty Science Center is an interactive museum. People have started coming more than five times a year! It is located on 222 Jersey City Boulevard, Jersey City, NJ. If you go to the Liberty Science Center you will beg your parents to never make you leave because it is the best place you have ever been to in your whole life!

Yogi Berra
“It’s going back, back, back! It’s gone!” You always heard this when Yogi Berra stepped up to the plate. Lawrence Peter Yogi Berra was born May 12, 1925 in Saint Louis. As a kid he lived on Elizabeth Street in a neighborhood called the Hill. He got his nickname from a childhood friend watching a movie. His friend said he looked and walked like the Hindu man in the film and got his nickname that way.
Yogi Berra was and still is famous because he played baseball for the Yankees. When he played for the Yankees he was catcher and talked to the players at bat trying to distract them. He later managed the Mets and was a dugout coach for the Astros, too.
Yogi Berra won the MVP award three times. He went to play in fourteen All-Star games. Yogi Berra lives in Montclair, New Jersey. Montclair State University’s baseball stadium is named “Yogi Berra” stadium. As you can see, Yogi Berra was liked by many people. I hope you enjoyed learning about Yogi Berra.
