The Devils and Their History

The New Jersey Devils began their NHL life in Missouri, the “Show Me” state, as the Kansas City Scouts. They were in Missori until 1978. The National Hockey League approved the team to move to Denver, where they emerged as the Colorado Rockies. They struggled in their first year, and saw Don Cherry take over as coach for the 1979-1980 season.

In the year 1982 the Colorodo Rockies were purchased by John Whitehead and Brendan Byrne. With NHL approval, the new owners relocated the team once again. This time in New Jersey. A new team was christened The New Jersey Devils in 1983.

The New Jersey Devils didn’t waste much time to get this new team winning. They began playing games in the Continental Arena. This year they had a new stadium built in Newark, New Jersey. It’s called The Prudential Center.

In the 1995 playoffs they deafeted the Bruins, the Lightning and the Senators. They were left to face off with the surprising Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the Stanley Cup final. In a defensive minded series The Devils clinched their first Stanly Cup in team history with a 4-2 series win. They went on to win again in 2000 and 2003. What a team!
